Shannon and Matt - Grant Humphreys Mansion
Saturday August 16th, 2008 was a cold and rainy day in Denver. We were watching the forecast and hoping for a different outcome, but it just wasn't in the cards. Just before I left for the Grant-Humphreys Mansion, the skies had let up and surfaces were starting to dry. But, while driving, when I came within a few blocks of the Mansion the skies opened up and it was torrential. Earlier that week, Shannon and Matt were pretty bummed by the weather, but by the time the wedding day came, they accepted the outcome with grace and high-spirits.
The ceremony was to take place on the front lawn of the Mansion, but it had to be moved inside. Fortunately, the staircase leading into the reception room provides a grand entrance for the bride and her father.
The ceremony was relatively short, yet intimate and elegant.
We were able to take portraits outside under the front columns. The colors and coordination for the wedding party was excellent with the different shades of blue for the bridesmaids, groomsmen, and ushers.
Of course, following the ceremony, it stopped raining and it dried up enough for Shannon, Matt, and I to take their photos outside with the Mansion as a backdrop. As quoted from the Grant-Humphreys website: "The Grant-Humphreys Mansion was built in 1902 in the striking and distinctive Beaux-Arts Colonial style".
The cocktail hour was to be held on the terrace on the south side of the Mansion. Even though those plans were altered, it was still a great place for the bride and groom pictures.
I also wanted to give props to Margaret Milliken with Sleek & Chic Events for an unbelievable job with all the wedding planning and decorations. The details of this wedding were truly fabulous.
We wish Shannon and Matt all the luck that's supposed to come from a rainy wedding day!Labels: august wedding, denver wedding photography, grant-humphreys mansion
