Rachel & Patrick - The Space Gallery - Downtown Denver

At the end of September, Jenny and I were hired for Rachel and Patrick's wedding at the Space Gallery located on Santa Fe Drive in the Arts District of Downtown Denver.

There were multiple rooms and a second level which make up the gallery and the entire wedding space. Rachel entered the ceremony from the second story loft with a graceful decent of the steel staircase.

We have shot several weddings at local galleries and while the lighting can sometimes be challenging (bright walls in the background and dark spaces for our subjects), if done right, the halogens can be an excellent source of dramatic light. Rachel and Patrick's ceremony provided this ideal type of setting as the guests were in shadow and the couple was 'in the spotlight'.

The historic Santa Fe Arts District, with its older buildings set oddly and randomly side-by-side, had some really cool and intimate places for bride and groom photos. A narrow alleyway immediately adjacent to the Space Gallery was illuminated with hanging lights provided an excellent setting, although cramped at times.

A love how the purple of the shop window molding really makes Patrick's tie and boutonniere pop in the picture below.

This next photograph is my favorite of the evening... the leading lines and chiaroscuro-style lighting worked out perfectly.

Rachel and Patrick were wonderful to work with. We wish them all the best in their new lift together. Cheers!
